A garbage disposal usually fails in one of a few ways. It hums but won't spin, which means something's stuck in the grind chamber. It goes dead silent, which points to a tripped reset or a burned-out motor. Or it drips under the sink, which means a worn seal or a cracked housing. Whatever it's doing, our plumber figures out which one it is fast, then tells you if it's a quick fix or a replacement.
On arrival we cut the power, check for a jam, and free the flywheel by hand before anything else. We test the reset button and the wiring, check the mounting ring, and run water through it to see where a leak is really coming from. A lot of the time the fix is simple. When a motor's actually dead or the unit's cracked, we'll show you and swap it out the same visit so you're not left with a sink you can't use.
San Antonio's hard water leaves mineral buildup in the grind chamber and around the seals, which shortens the life of a lot of disposals here. Older homes in Monte Vista and Alamo Heights sometimes have units wired into aging circuits, so we check the electrical side too. Newer builds up in Stone Oak, Schertz, and Cibolo get the standard fixes. We work all over, from Southtown and Olmos Park out to Helotes, Boerne, and New Braunfels.

Common questions
Can you fix it today or do I need a new one?
Most jams, tripped resets, and loose connections get fixed on the spot. If the motor's burned out or the housing is cracked, that unit's done, and we can install a replacement the same visit so you're not stuck with a dead sink.
Why does my disposal just hum and not spin?
Something's wedged against the flywheel, usually a bone, a fruit pit, or silverware. The motor's fine but blocked. First, cut the power at the switch. Never put your hand in. We free it with the proper tool and test it before we leave.
Is water under the sink always the disposal?
Not always. It could be the disposal seal, but it can also be the drain lines, the dishwasher hose, or the P-trap right next to it. We trace the leak to the real source so you're not paying to fix the wrong thing.
What shouldn't I put down it?
Grease, coffee grounds, eggshells, fibrous stuff like celery and corn husks, and starchy foods like potato peels. Those either dull the unit or clog the line downstream. Run cold water while it grinds and for a few seconds after.
